Dr. Julie Yip graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1982 and a Diploma in Periodontics from the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1988. She also earned a PhD with distinction in 2010 from Columbia University in New York, USA.
From 1994 to 2024, Dr. Yip was an Assistant Professor, and then Associate Professor, in the Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at New York University College of Dentistry, USA. She was also a Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore between 2013 and 2019. Her research and publications have focused on the risk factors for periodontal disease and implant failure, periodontal disease progression and prevention, as well as the periodontal-systemic disease association.
Dr. Yip is passionate about saving teeth and helping patients maintain their natural dentition. She is a firm believer in communication and in empowering patients with the knowledge and self-care skills to prevent or treat periodontal disease and play a pivotal role in their dental care. For her, seeing a patient’s smile at the end of the appointment makes even the most challenging procedures or visits worthwhile.
