Braces for Kids

A smiling young woman with short hair sitting in a chair in a medical setting, wearing casual clothing with an Alpha Omega badge, with two healthcare workers in the background, one wearing a face mask and gloves.

Some children may need braces early if they have severely crooked, overlapping, or overcrowded teeth, or a misaligned bite (malocclusion).

At Tanglin Dental, we offer a range of braces options tailored to your child’s needs. It’s never too early for a dental check-up — during the visit, we can screen for oral habits like thumb-sucking and detect dental issues such as decay or gum disease.

Early evaluation allows for interceptive treatment to help:

  • Guide jaw growth and tooth alignment

  • Prevent more serious orthodontic problems in the future.

A young boy sitting in a dental chair with his mouth open, getting a dental check-up. A dentist wearing gloves and holding a dental instrument is examining him. A woman, possibly his mother, stands nearby, watching with a smile.

Caring for Your Child’s Teeth

Begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as the first tooth appears, using a soft, small-headed toothbrush and a smear of kid’s toothpaste. At Tanglin Dental, we will guide you on proper oral hygiene techniques, helping your child build healthy dental habits from the very start.

Caring for Your Teeth

Even if your teeth feel fine and pain-free, regular dental care is important — you only get two sets of teeth in your lifetime: your baby teeth and your permanent teeth. Taking care of them now helps prevent problems later.

At Tanglin Dental, our general dentists provide a comprehensive dental check-up which includes:

  • Assessing gum health

  • Diagnosing cavities and bite issues

  • Scaling and Polishing to keep your teeth and gums healthy

  • Providing oral hygiene guidance

Once your dental health is in good condition, it’s important to return every 6–12 months for regular check-ups and maintenance, ensuring your smile stays healthy for life.

Scaling and Polishing

Regular scaling and polishing helps keep your teeth healthy, clean, and functioning well.

During this visit, our dentists will:

  1. Examine your teeth and gums
We check for decay, gum disease, and other issues. Our focus is on prevention - identifying problems early before they get serious.

  2. Remove plaque and tartar
If not professionally cleaned off, these hard deposits build up over time and can lead to tooth decay or gum disease.

  3. Polishing
We remove stains using specialised tools - leaving your teeth smooth and refreshed.

Periodic dental X-rays (every 2–3 years) may also be recommended to check for problems between the teeth or under the gums.

How Often Should You Come In?

The ideal frequency depends on your risk of developing dental problems. Most patients benefit from visiting twice a year, while those at higher risk may need more frequent cleanings.

Patients with very healthy gums and teeth may only need a check-up and clean once a year.

Cost:

Routine Scaling & Polishing

  • Adults: $90 to $125

  • Child: $60 onwards

    (excluding GST)

Digital X-Rays

We use digital X-rays to capture detailed images of your teeth and surrounding structures quickly and comfortably. These X-rays use very low radiation, and safe for patients of all ages.

Digital X-rays help our dentists detect and treat dental problems early — often before they cause pain or become visible. Your dentist may recommend X-rays if there are signs of:

  1. Tooth Decay

  2. Gum Disease

  3. Wisdom Tooth Issues

It is good practice to have X-rays taken periodically (every 2-3 years) to detect problems early. Early treatment in dentistry tends to give the most predictable and effective outcomes.

Cost:

$35 to $90 per X-ray (before GST)

depending on the type of x-ray needed
